Interventional radiology

This issue of Applied Radiology focuses on Interventional Radiology, which continues to expand its reach throughout clinical medicine. In order to reflect this expansion, the articles contained in this issue represent various components of the field. The scope covered by these articles is broad, including catheter-based embolization, catheter-based revascularization, and musculoskeletal intervention. The backgrounds of the contributing authors are also varied, including practitioners from academic medical centers as well as community practices. The degree to which the various interventions have been accepted is also broad, with established techniques, such as epistaxis embolization, presented along with recently applied techniques, such as IDET. The broad scope regarding procedure type, practice setting, and maturity of technology was chosen deliberately to highlight the broad range of radiological interventions, and the exciting expansion of the field of Interventional Radiology as a whole.
